What Is Performance Psychology?
Exercise psychology is a discipline used to help people assess where they are at with regards to exercise, define an individualized exercise program, help people deal with the barriers and issues that restrict people’s participation in exercise and maximize a person’s enjoyment of exercise.
Performance psychology is a subdivision of psychology that examines psychological factors influencing optimal human performance. It focuses on domains such as sport, business and creative pursuits. Established principles of performance psychology are employed to assist professionals at the top of their game, produce superior results often under pressure of competition, role or spectator expectation. We have relied heavily on the techniques used in sports & performance psychology to try and develop a body of techniques that can be used in Exercise and Fitness. We give credit to Amruta Karkhanis Deshmukh for this development process.
Perhaps this is the only personal trainer course any where in the world that has a specific module for Exercise and Fitness Psychology. In 2016, we introduced with the following objectives –
- Help the fitness professional better understand the mental make-up and personality of the client
- Enable him / her to apply on clients performance psychology tools like motivation, goal setting, visualization, etc., to optimise mental and physical discipline that together will lead to successful and safe achievement of fitness goals.

- Introduce fitness professionals to the larger world of sports and performance psychology.
Conducted by GĀYO FITNESS ACADEMY, this short course – Module 2.07 – is part of the Mumbai U – EREPS Level 4 Certificate Course for Personal Fitness Trainers (CCPFT).
This short specialist course is approved by International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) – USA for 10 CEUs.
